How to calculate tax increase?
To calculate a tax increase, subtract the old tax amount (or rate) from the new tax amount. Divide the difference by the old tax amount and multiply by 100. This applies to property tax, income tax, or sales tax hikes.
Formula
Tax Hike % = ((New Tax − Old Tax) ÷ Old Tax) × 100
Worked Example
Property tax goes from $2,000 to $2,500.
- Increase: $2,500 − $2,000 = $500
- Fraction: $500 ÷ $2,000 = 0.25
- Percent: 0.25 × 100 = 25%
Result: Your taxes increased by 25%.
