How to calculate percentage growth?
To calculate percentage growth, determine the difference between the final value and the initial value. Divide that difference by the absolute value of the initial value, then multiply by 100. This formula works for population, revenue, height, or any other measurable metric.
Formula
Growth % = ((Final Value − Initial Value) ÷ Initial Value) × 100
Worked Example
A user base grows from 1,000 to 1,500:
- Growth: 1,500 − 1,000 = 500
- Relative Size: 500 ÷ 1,000 = 0.50
- Percentage: 0.50 × 100 = 50%
Result: The growth rate is 50%.
