How to calculate discount?
To calculate a discount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage (converted to a decimal) to find the amount saved. Then, subtract that savings amount from the original price to get the final sale price.
Formula
Savings = Original Price × (Discount % ÷ 100) Final Price = Original Price − Savings
Worked Example
A $100 item is 20% off.
- Find Savings: $100 × 0.20 = $20
- Find Price: $100 − $20 = $80
Result: The discounted price is $80.
